Our Athlete of the Month for the month of April is CASE Cardinal Leslie Denis!!!
With the horrid winter behind us all, Leslie Denis has emerged as one of the best pitchersof the 2015 high school softball season. The senior threw 62 innings over the month, posting a 0.90 ERA. She has been a big piece in the Cardinals’ success in the South Coast conference this year, also batting .476 and knocking in 27 runs. Denis also logged 85 strikeouts, while walking only 8, bringing her strikeouts per 7 innings to a blistering 9.59, her walks per 7 innings to 0.90 and her strikeout to walk ratio to an eye-popping 10.625.
While the D2 bound pitcher has been a horse on the bump, she has also been digging in at the dish. Denis was on base in over half her plate appearances (.510 on-base percentage) and slugging 3 home runs, including a grand slam, 2 triples, 3 doubles.
“Leslie is not only a leader on the field, but also in the gym,” coach Mike Fernandes said. “She gives 110%, never misses a training session and is a great role model for our younger athletes.”
Leslie’s mother, Lori Wilson, credits a lot of her daughter’s success and scholarship to her work put in over the past two years at Infinite Fitness.
“The training program Leslie has had at infinite fitness has made a big impact on her performance this season. Not only has her velocity increased, but she has been able to maintain her endurance throughout 7 innings without fatigue and she even throws harder as the game progresses. I also have noticed an increase in her energy, and I am very impressed with how strong she has become. Leslie becoming a member has been thebest decision for her. We are very comfortable knowing she will be able to handle thecollege training.”
